Iată că s-a tras cortina peste cea de-a unsprezecea ediţie Rototom Reggae Contest – Zona Europeană – iar marea câştigătoare din 2012 se numeşte Irie FM. Această trupă minunată din Serbia a reuşit să capteze atenţia publicului şi aprecierea juriului din Udine mai mult decât celelalte cinci competitoare: Arrokibi Roots din Italia, Sundyata din Franţa, Ital Audio din UK, Chalwa Band & King Konsul din Spania şi Sattatree din Germania. Marele premiu constă într-un turneu European în care câştigătorii vor fi invitaţi să cânte pe marea scenă a nu mai puţin de zece festivaluri reggae importante. Printre aceste festivaluri putem număra Summerjam din Koln, Germania, Sardinia Reggae Festival din Italia, Reggae SunSka din Franţa, Rototom Sunsplash din Spania sau Uprising Reggae Festival din Slovacia. La ediţia din 2011 Irie FM ajunseseră până în finală, ratând la mustaţă potul cel mare.

Pentru cei ce au deschis mai târziu monitoarele pe Zona Reggae, trebuie să-i anunţ că Irie FM reprezintă o trupă vocal-instrumentală care numără nouă persoane, unite în jurul unei singure idei, aceea de a crea muzică pentru tineri. Muzica lor este catalogată drept originală şi este interpretată cu un set compact de instrumente care cuprind: tobe, bass, ritm, chitară solo, clape, percuţii, 2 tromboane şi saxofon. Irie FM s-a înfiinţat în 2001 în Belgrad, Serbia şi este o trupă familiară pentru ţara noastră, susţinând un concert de zile mari pe 6 aprilie la Timişoara organizat de reggaelize.it.

Aruncând o simplă privire asupra câştigătoarelor din anii trecuţi îmi dau seama că doar câteva şi-au confirmat succesul. Pe această listă îi regăsim pe Mellow Mood, Black Prophet, Irie Maffia, Riddim Colony, Tu Shung Peng sau pe Jahcoustix.

Pentru că n-au apărut încă imagini de la acest eveniment pe care să le pot embedui vă las în compania unui live cu Irie FM înregistrat cu ocazia festivalului EXIT organizat în 2011 la Novi Sad. De asemenea, aveţi disponibile aici mai multe video-uri cu prestaţii live de la finală (click pe link).

ps.. le-am ţinut pumnii anul acesta sârbilor şi se pare că le-am purtat noroc, anul viitor mă voi concentra pe East Roots.

The finishing touches are put on the eleventh Rototom Reggae Contest – The European Zone – and the 2012 winner is Irie FM. This great band from Serbia managed in Udine to catch the public’s attention and the jury’s recognition more than the other five competitors: Arrokibi Roots from Italy, Sundyata fromFrance, Ital Audio from the United Kingdom, Chalwa Band & King Konsul from Spain and Sattatree from Germany. The great prize consists of an European tour where the winners will be invited to perform on the main scene of not less than ten big-league reggae festivals. Among them we can count Summerjam in Koln, Germany; Sardinia Reggae Festival in Italy; Reggae Sunska in France; Rototom Sunsplash in Spain or Uprising Reggae Festival in Slovacia. At the 2011 festival edition, Irie FM reached the drop scene, being very close to the jackpot.

For those who are new on Zona Reggae, it must be advertised  that Irie FM is a nine-piece vocal and instrumental band concentrated around a single idea – that of making music for the youth. Their music is labeled as original and is created by a complex set of instruments including: drums, bass guitar, rhythm, solo guitar, keyboards, percussion, 2 trombones and a sax. Irie FM was established in 2011 in Belgrad, Serbia and it is familiar band for Romania as they performed a memorably big concert this year on the 6th of April in Timisoara, concert organized by reggaelize.it.

Taking a quick glance at the winner bands in the previous years one can figure out that only a few managed to justify their success. On this list there are Mellow Mood, Black Prophet, Irie Maffia, Riddim Colony, Tu Shung Peng or Jahcoustix.

P.S. We kept fingers crossed for the Serbians this year so they got lucky; next year we should focus on East Roots.
